Description:

Manage Purchasing activities to ensure material needs are met in support of production and overall business goals.  Will pursue cost savings opportunities, optimize material flow to support delivery date requirements and on time delivery and develop team members in support of a culture based on customer satisfaction and operational excellence.

 Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Purchasing department
  • Understand pricing and market conditions for key products/commodities to assist in developing sourcing plans
  • Analyze material usage to determine trends, identify SPA opportunities and to maximize cost savings
  • Evaluate and implement best practices to mitigate lost production time due to material availability
  • Develop and manage effective relationships with suppliers to meet cost, quality and delivery targets
  • Streamline processes to reduce lead time and freight, with the goal of reducing inventory and costs
  • Communicate material issues to impacted departments and aid in resolution
  • Ensure collaboration with relevant departments including Sales, Scheduling, Production, Quality and Finance
  • Prepare reports/analyses as requested by management.
  • Coach and develop team members to maintain adequately trained staffing
  • Evaluate the performance of team members in cooperation with Director of Materials and HR, organizing necessary interventions
  • Perform other various duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Required degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or other related field
  • 4+ years purchasing management experience required, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • APICS certification beneficial
  • Excellent sourcing and negotiating skills
  • Comfortable with figures and in collecting, analyzing and interpreting data
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to train as well as lead
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities with a sense of urgency
  • Exhibits positive behaviors with a customer appreciation mentality
  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of ERP systems and Microsoft Office
